Memories are made of this.

A presto ♥

Dany

Every year when spring of colors and scients explodes, fast my thoughts runs back to the years, many years ago, when, in the grass of a meadow, I moved my first steps: the colors, the smells, insects, birdsong, grandparents ...

- (picture 1)

.. Grandparents ... grandparents are "timeless", time for them has already passed, they're not in a hurry, they live in a time that's only theirs, concerned only to give love and I, their only grandchild, have been wrapped and feeded with their love; they were the sunshine of my childhood and I think I was the sunshine of their mature age.
Between April and May we were leaving the city for the countryside and being born in February, at the age of few months l already began to be fascinated with the game of nature and to eager to be part of it.

Grandfather ♥

- (picture 2)

Hardened, even harshly, from history, born when the Great War was drawing to a close, spent his childhood and adolescence in the tough period between the two World Wars and then the youth in the period more .. atrocious that our historical memory can remember, the one marked by Nazism and fascism, and probably just the events of his life made him a person so deeply kind, noble, humble, compassionate, with a precious interior world that made him lovable to all.
I find him in me whenever I feel the joy that little things give to me, every morning, in the light of the sun, in the return of the swallows that almost darken the sky when they, so many and so joyous, each year, flutter so close to greet us that we almost seem to touch them, in the first chirps of a newborn chick in a nest, when I caress an animal, in the blossoming of the flowers that we gathered together, during our long walks, to bring to Mummy who was waiting for us at home.

Grandmother ♥

- (picture 3)

With a decidedly stronger personality than the grandfather but no less affectionate and protective, grandmother learned the art of sewing when she was still a child and became soon a sought tailoress specialized in making trousers, very precise and meticulous, very skilful in all the work with needle; patient in trying in sending me her art, has been able to transmit me this passion, though not her talent, and I use it mainly to decorate the house with curtains and pillows and applying it, with a little of manuality and creativity, to upholster sofas and armchairs and .. when I wield her scissors I feel as if she guides and follows me in the work I'm going to do.

People who have loved us with deep love doesn't stop loving us just because our eyes don't meet anymore: when, between 800 and 900 brothers and sisters, children, friends were leaving to look for a work, for a better life, for fortune in distant lands and communications made it difficult or impossible any form of contact, the bond between them didn't dissolved for this, but, on the contrary, it grew, the distance consolidated it ... My grandparents were called elsewhere a few years ago, sometimes I think that it would give me so much joy to meet them, even for a moment, and dreams try to give this joy to me but honestly, if I stop to think, I feel that they aren't so far away, I feel that they are continuing to be close to me as a time ...

- (picture 4)

And I'm ending my little journey in the memories of childhood land using the verses of Eugenio Montale, the poet of our literary culture that I love most; they sound almost like an epitaph for them that they gave me so much

"I went down at least one million of stairs, giving you my arm,
and now that you're not there is a vacuum at each step.
Even so our long journey was short.
My lasts to this day, and I need no
coincidences, reservations,
traps, the scorn of those who believe
that reality is what you see anymore.
I went down millions of stairs giving you my arm
not because with four eyes maybe you see more.
With you I've got because I knew that the two of us
whose only real eyes, though much obfuscated,
were yours. "

(Eugenio Montale, 1967 from Satura, 1971)

See you soon ♥

  2. I love the stories you are sharing of your childhood and of your grandparents. I've been doing a lot of family history research and I'm so determined to get the stories written down to share with the next generations. They may not seem to care now but when they are my age, they will! The photos and your way of telling the stories are lovely, Dany.

our memories are part of what we are today, you're so right, my sweet, new friend !
As for the figurine, truth is that to find something like that isn't so easy, even in Italy, it was a Capodimonte manifacture, but this wonderful and so ancient factory dating back to the early XVIIIth century had to close a few years ago, alas !

Have a wonderful remainder of your Sunday and a blessed evening, sending much love and thankfulness to you ಌ•❤•ಌ

I suppose that your grandparents were as parents to you ... so were mine, and so many memories of my childhood are linked to them, they both were Angels to me, my Guardian Angels, and I'm sure that they are going on looking after me from up above, they loved me so much - I was their only granddaughter - they haven't left me completely ... I'm sure ... and your grandparents too, darling friend, I do believe that love is much more stronger than death !

May your day be blessed with joy, Dearest One, I wholeheartedly thank you ... I'm leaving you touched and moved ...
      much love ...
