Just a tiny Victorian Frame forgotten in an old Trunk

I've always been seeing this little portrait
as long as I can remember.
It was hanging on a wall in my great-grandmother's sitting room.

I've never loved it such a lot, to me that lady caressing her hair was the picture of vanity (it's a reproduction of the painting by Franz Xaver Winterhalter dating back to 1864 and portraying Madame Rimsky Korsakov). Of course, you have to consider that it all was the fruit of a child's mind.  A few days ago, lingering amongst old trunks in a cellar of ours, I found myself with it in my hands . . .  How long had it been since I last saw it?
Several decades, for sure.  When my great-grandmother passed away, I was aged 13, and my grandfather divided all her belongings with his brother, my great uncle.
What remained to him was kept in trunks that Mom inherited and which were placed in our cellars, when we got married and came to live here. For years they have been remaining almost forgotten at all.
Well, let's come back to our little picture.
When I found it, I decided to hang it in our home, after giving it a 'new' face.  During these years my tastes didn't change so much!
After deciding to preserve the part of the frame with the green velvet, I took off the golden ring which kept the glass.  Then I went up to the attic looking for a wallpaper scrap.

It had to be fit for a little gem a dear friend of mine had made especially for me as a gift. It depicts an elderly Queen Victoria with the trimmed cap she wore since she became a widow.  It's an old shot she printed on a small piece of white fabric which became a lovely pendant.

I decided to choose the wallpaper striped in white and beige given the beige is just the same nuance of the walls of our dining room.
I cut the wallpaper keeping the golden ring as a template

and then, with a little of glue, the beautiful lady disappeared

and the wallpaper has become the background of this trinket, as if it were a picture inside a picture.  Yes. little by little, my idea was keeping shape . . .

I took a very small nail, and hammered it into the piece of frame covered by the wallpaper, given it's entirely made of wood.  Then I hung my pendant on it.  After cleaning carefully the glass, I put it into its site and then inserted the golden ring into its slot.
But I wasn't satisfied yet . . .  I eventually decided to add a final touch, a small lace as a trimming to put around the golden ring of the frame, to make look everything even "more Victorian". Victorians put laces and placed doilies everywhere!

And here it is, it is just made, but it looks ancient, just the way I, rather, we, do like things surrounding us in our 'nest'.  It has regained some of the patina of time that it had lost.

Here is a "BEFORE & AFTER" mosaic.

With utmost gratitude for the kindness and affection which You always follow ~ My little old world ~ with,

IMMAGINE

I vittoriani mettevano pizzi e centrini ovunque!

IMMAGINE
