George Sheridan Knowles' paintings: the Beauty of ingenuity and of naivety.

There they go ...

Feeding the Pidgeons

 Summer Pleasure on the River

A presto miei cari

Born in Manchester, on November 25th, 1863 George Sheridan Knowles is known as a famous painter of oil and watercolor paintings who produced painter by nostalgic themes, often in costume, with the intent to evoke past times and feelings, among which the very first, timid approaches dictated by passion, but above all the ingenuity linked to childhood, and for this recurring romantic nostalgia og his he was already much appreciated at his time, the Victorian age.

- picture 1 - There they go ...

He studied at the Manchester School of Art and at the Royal Academy Schools, to come to paint both canvases academic and nostalgic, revived by bright colors and a slight touch of the brush that was adopted just in those years by the impressionism, which, blurring the scene, increases its evocatice character.

- picture 2 - Untitled

In 1885, Knowles had already moved to London when his greatest works were exhibited at the most famous exhibitions; he became a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, of The Royal Institute of Painters in Oil Colours, of The Royal Cambrian Academy, as well as of The Royal Society of British Artists so finding a well-deserved reward when he was still alive, which, alas, not all of the greatest artists can be said.

But I restrain myself from going on writing to let you observe the delicacy and the sensitivity of this artist who gave life to paintings characterized by so much sweetness, evocative and elegiac as to become even touching.

my lovely and sweetest friend, probably the ones you do prefer are those I also like more, but it's so hard to decide !
You're right, all his faces communicate such a serenity that I think is the most beautiful thing ( and probably the most hard too ) a painter can do, because we, while are watching his paintings, immediately feel this gladness in our hearts.

Have a joyous and bright evening, my Beautiful friend, and a serene continuation of the week ❥
